Progress report on Episode 2. June 25th 2008

Yesterday saw Tuesday come and go with no sign of a video. You might remember us saying that the earlier delays were to allow for a weekly release schedule once videos were out and unfortunately we aren't there yet. We haven't got efficient enough to put out a video each week, at least not at the quality we prefer to have in final videos. The good news? There's no reason why Episode 2 shouldn't be out next Tuesday or, to put it another way, 2 weeks after Episode 1.

Of course that's far from iron-clad but if it does then 2 weeks is a marked improvement over our videos two years ago or even episode 1 which (as you probably know) took 9 weeks or so to get out the gate. Again...we hope to take the improvements in production time to see our Main Project (that is following Console Wars) actually comes in weekly installments.

P.S. MGS 4 didn't help either. All the time spent on Episode 1 meant I only just got to playing it (and complete it) a couple of days ago.

A podcast, an iPod video and some saved films. June 20th 2008

A few updates here and there. First off is episode three of our audio podcast in which we're relieved to actually have something to talk about.

Grab it here. 13.2 MB (right click and save-as).

Second is the iPod compatible, Standard-Def copy of the first episode of Console Wars which is grabbable here or as part of our RSS podcast feed (see above). Finally is a host of saved films on our file share (which is accessible just to the left of this story if you're wondering). As you might expect they are all from our latest (and only) video and we talk about them in a little depth on the podcast.

Leave any feed back here.

'Progress Report - Lovely, lovely software.' June 10th 2008

A software glitch (not saying any names but the culprit rhymes with Boatoshop) just cost us a days work. Darn. It's all part of the huge crunch in 'special effects' shots that was only two shots away from the end when said glitch occurred. It's not a huge problem though. Tomorrow sees the introduction of music and sound to the cut and from there it's simply a question of getting these difficult shots done - so folks can probably hazard a guess at when this was supposed to come out. By extension, add a day to that and that's when it should come out.

It's a funny time in Chairleg land right now. We're finally about to actually relaunch ourselves 7 weeks on after the trailer that was supposed to do just that. I'm hoping that once we're 3 or 4 videos in everyone can forget about this interim period of delays and glitches. Until then...

-Rob.

P.S. Oh and also...iPhone 3G. Sweet.

'Better than Silence' - Episode 2. June 6th 2008

Another update, another video shaped hole where one should be. Still, we weren't going to give up on the other commitment we made - that of the podcast.

Better than Silence Episode 2 - 5.4 MB

In this very short installment we explain why we think the video is actually going to hit in the next few days and the processes going into that. It's worth mentioning that the rough cut Andy and I talk about is now done and now it's just a case of filling in the gaping holes and adding in flashy effects and noises. It's finally coming. And we thought May 2nd was a realistic date.

'Better than Silence' - We do a Podcast. May 31st 2008

Man. It's been a pretty crazy 48 hours. Lots of the Chairleg guys in University have just spent the last day or so packing up all our stuff, bringing it back to our hometowns and presumably proceeded to unpack everything all over again. I for one just got everything electronic up and running again so here's the post announcing the podcast we just released...and the video we didn't. If you came yesterday expecting the now stupidly delayed video then you probably saw Andy's post. The frontpage announcement had to wait until now as what little time we had with the computers still set up in Aberystwyth were used to get a few last variations on dialogue from Consoles Wars recorded.

With what little more I know of HTML and RSS I can now put up this frontpage post and the RSS feed for Podcast.

Download mp3 directly (right click and save-as).
The RSS Feed.

The feed itself contains the mp3s of the hoped-to-be weekly audio podcasts and standard definition mp4's of our videos that work on iPods - so the easiest thing to do is to copy the link to the RSS feed into iTunes for instant iPod-ness. If we get into the swing of things then perhaps we'll try and get it on the iTunes store.

Just a few things to note too. We mention this on the podcast but we did this on pretty short notice when we realised on thursday that with us all packing up, Console Wars was going to miss the final (ha) release date. As someone who has spent the last two years saying "Just a few more days" it's really starting to sting but at least you can perhaps enjoy this podcast. The unplanned nature of this podcast does mean that the quality on my voice in particular suffers a bit but the good news is that from now on we have all the appropriate mics lined up. In this episode all we had on such short notice was a boom mic (designed for filming live action over a distance) and so I had to run it through a filter to remove the unwanted noise. It still sounds pretty good though.

Does 'Better than silence' work as podcast title? See you guys...er...soon.

Update: A minute after posting this I just remembered to put this disclaimer up. We discuss Indiana Jones IV and Lost for a couple of minutes so listen at your own risk (though this was recorded before the Lost series four finale).
